Banner speaks to Raamiel

Banner now knew how his father felt. Standing in the throne room at the behest of his mother, he wanted only to be in his study looking at the scrolls he had now procured from the library in the Cathedral of Anesh. For the past few days, his schedule had allowed him no time for study. His life in the Cathedral of Anesh was monitored and scheduled and nearly every aspect of his time had been occupied until tonight when he finally thought he’d have the time he needed to devote to the scrolls. Now, on what he thought was going to be a free night, his mother had insisted he attend a ceremony and see the very unveiling of an extraordinary object that promised to ensure the sovereignty of Kormyrith. Fortunately, he’d have a few hours to himself if he was able to escape the tedious and extended socialization that followed every event like this.

Banner stood in a well-tailored black and gold tunic bearing the pentagram of Anesh on its chest. In contrast to the boots he usually wore, his dress boots were shined and flawless. The whole thing was also extremely uncomfortable. He was forced to stand aside his parents in the throne room. At least they got to sit, unlike he and some of the others, who had to stand next to the thrones like decorations. His mother and father would arrive after all of the guests. His dad was probably still in the lab where he always was at this very moment.

The sun streamed into the room as a small and exclusive audience assembled. Banner looked out onto the group that filed in and took their places, standing before the Patriarch and queen on two red and gold carpets that were on opposite sides of a long solid red carpet that ran down the center of the room. He recognized a few of the guests as important dignitaries and figures in Kormyrith, many of the same people who attended he and his brother’s graduation feast.

A quiet din settled over the group, then a herald made an announcement, and everyone became silent. Trumpeters played the usual entrance music as Illyana and Galeon entered the room, Banner almost rolled his eyes at the pompousness of it all. His mother and father turned and faced the crowd after ascending to their thrones. His mother addressed the crowd.

“We have assembled you here today to bear witness to the unveiling of a monumental triumph of our craftsmen and mages. Blending the technologies of our metal crafters, the artisanship of our finest forge masters and the superior knowledge of magic led by our blessed Patriarch, we wish to present something to the people of Kormyrith that will ensure our security from the ambitious hands of the Xorian empire for ages to come. Borne of our history and our victories over the Pratherians and the Xorians, you will be the first to see that which will ensure the victory of Kormyrith in any Xorian aggression.
